An Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat was last night on the way to pick up some 30 illegal immigrants from a boat to the southeast of Malta, the AFM said.

The immigrants' vessel was being towed by a Maltese fishing boat.

The AFM said they were alerted to the presence of the vessel at about 6 p.m.
