The number of Malta residents visiting EU destinations in September was estimated at 29,738. Those visiting non-EU countries numbered 5,481.
Both markets (EU and non-EU) registered increases over 2009.
These increases were in trips to Italy and France with trips to the UK and Germany registering a decline.
The amount of outbound passengers recorded between January and September was 215,623, up by seven per cent when compared to last year. Trips to EU countries comprised 85 per cent of the total and stood at 183,792.
Unlike previous years, the most popular destination was Italy. Trips to EU destinations had an average length of stay of 7.2 nights, while the average for non-EU countries stood at 12.8 nights.
The number of same-day visitors was estimated at 24,715. The majority of trips (56 per cent) were undertaken for holiday purposes.
The total budgeted expenditure planned by outbound tourists during these nine months stood at €209 million, with an average expenditure of €969.5 per person.
