At 7 a.m. today, at Hondoq ir-Rummien, more than 40 swimmers will be awaiting the starter's orders to launch the annual Gozo-Malta Open Sea Swimming Challenge, organised by Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club.

At a meeting held this week for participants, details and instructions about the race were explained by the club's Swimming Board.

This unique swim, involving the main islands of the Maltese archipelago, takes participants through Comino's Blue Lagoon towards the finish at Cirkewwa.

Swimmers will be accompanied by a boat and the race is expected to finish at around 10.00 a.m.

For the second year running, Birkirkara SJ has teamed up with ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija and the swimmers will be collecting funds in aid of this charitable institution.
