Mosta moved into second place in the women's league standings last weekend after they beat Birkirkara 1-0 at the Pace Grasso ground.

Mosta ended their league commitments with 26 points, one ahead of Birkirkara, who, however, have a game in hand. They face Raiders in their final match on April 27.

Birkirkara showed the better football, especially in the first period, but failed to take the chances that came their way.

Mosta's gradual improvement yielded the winning goal courtesy of a Jane Coates second-half free-kick. For Mosta, this was their second success over the Stripes in three league meetings this season.

Champions Hibernians recovered from a slow start to beat Raiders 3-0. The Paolites opened up a two-goal lead before the break and added another one upon resumption. Dorianne Theuma scored two of Hibs' goals, one from a penalty, with the other coming from Joanne Vella.

Melita were also 3-0 winners over bottom-placed Rabat in a match they dominated from start to finish.

Goals from Jackie Ellul Soler and Roberta Girard gave Melita a two-goal lead at the interval. Maria Azzopardi converted a penalty after the break to seal Melita's success.

Leading scorers: D. Theuma (Hibs) 19 goals; J. Vella (Hibs) 11; S. Caruana (Hibs) 10; E. Agliano (Birkirkara) 9; C. Camilleri (Birkirkara), S. Mizzi, J. Coates (Mosta) 8.

Next programme (Sunday, April 27): 9 a.m. Hibs vs Melita; 10.30 a.m. Birkirkara vs Raiders.
