Mosta scout group visits Gozo

A full day spent taking in breathtaking views and, why not, a swim

Members of the Troop Section of the Mosta Scout Group spent a day in Gozo, experiencing the island’s history, culture and natural beauty. Shortly after arriving at Mġarr Harbour, the group headed to the historic Cittadella in Victoria.

The scouts, around 40, walked along the impressive bastions, taking in the spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of Gozo. They also had the opportunity to admire the five historic bells of St Mary’s Cathedral, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries, and the famous clock tower on St Michael’s Bastion.

The next stop was the national shrine of Ta’ Pinu. A visit to Gozo is never complete without experiencing the peaceful atmosphere and devotion this sanctuary offers.

The scouts met the shrine’s rector Carmelo Refalo, who passionately shared the history of the sanctuary and recounted a few stories behind this magnificent place of worship.

The day continued with visits to two of the island’s most popular beaches – Xlendi Bay and Ramla l-Ħamra. The scouts enjoyed some free time to have lunch and swim in the crystal-clear waters. While at Ramla, the troop also made their way to Mixta Cave, one of Gozo’s hidden gems. Named after the Maltese word mxett, meaning a winter shelter for people and livestock, the cave was historically used by early inhabitants, dating back to the Bronze Age. The cave’s opening offers breathtaking views overlooking the golden sands of Ramla l-Ħamra.
