I quite agree with F. Muscat who wrote about the heavy traffic passing through secondary roads, which, while causing damage to parked cars, are also rendering our streets a nightmare. This is mainly due to the fact that main roads have been turned one way.

It has become the order of the day for councils to make streets (or most of them), one way. For some it was essential, however for most it was just not necessary. This has caused a lot of inconvenience, besides unnecessary fumes resulting from having to drive a longer distance because of several twists and turns.

It is also becoming a habit to build new roads with very wide pavements as a result of which the roads, which were once wide enough to take three or more lanes, are now narrower. A case in point is Triq il-Qalbiena Mostin, Mosta. This road is very new but there are already pavements with broken ends caused by heavy vehicles.

It is being said that roads are being narrowed to avoid speeding. Personally I do not agree. And I wonder why the Malta Environment and Planning Authority does not intervene before the roads are ready. Or is this being done on purpose with that in mind?

While on the subject, I suggest to whoever is responsible to inspect the road leading from Naxxar to San Gwann. This road is new but already patches of broken tarmac can be seen following the rain we had during these last few weeks.

Is it not a shame?
