QORMI 1 MOSTA 3

Mosta had to sweat harder than expected to obtain the three points at stake against Qormi. Their task should have been much easier as their opponents were down to ten min for an hour.

Ivan Zammit’s men were expected to lay siege to their opponents’ goal but even if they did manage to break Qormi’s resistance, they still found it hard to filter past a makeshift Qormi defence ably marshalled by Ousmane Sidibe.

It was Mosta who fell behind after some defensive uncertainty between Farrugia and Adrian Borg allowed Djamel Leeflang to advance unimpeded before hitting past Borg.

The Blues were shocked but they redressed the imbalance immediately when Zammit volleyed home an Ekani cross as the ball seeped through a sea of yellow shirts.

After the break, Qormi found the going tough as they tried to hold on for dear life. Past the hour mark, the Serbian midfielder, on loan from Birkirkara, Edin Murga unleashed a swerving shot which arrowed behind Jean-Mathias Vella, the Qormi goalkeeper.

Qormi’s hopes were dashed when Mosta scored their third goal. The agile Yau served substitute Gustavo De Paula who set off on a solo run, made his way into the box and blasted the ball past Vella.
