Why are owners of motorbikes disadvantaged compared to car owners as regards no claim discount? I never made any claim and in almost nine years the bike insurance was never subject to NCD.
One reason insurance companies have given to justify the increase of premiums is that as from May 1 the pillion rider will have to be insured too. This is utter nonsense, as on the logbook of the bike the seating capacity is shown as two, and when one insures the vehicle one does so as per log book, so the pillion rider is insured no matter what insurance companies are claiming. In fact when an accident occurs, insurance companies still cover any damages to the pillion rider when injuries occur.
I understand that the green card would cease to exist from May 1 as the bike will be insured in all EU countries, and that the premium would have to be adjusted accordingly but to increase by 50 to 100 per cent as some insurance companies are doing is blatant robbery.
Some insurance agents first reduced their premiums drastically to attract many bike users and now, as they are only agents of a foreign company and this foreign company increased their premiums as they had a considerable amount of bike policies, they are raising premiums sky-high to get rid of the excess bike policies. The government should regulate this.
Why are insurances not insuring new bikes? Bike dealers are finding it hard to sell new or second-hand bikes as they cannot find insurance companies to cover them. Is this the way to reduce traffic congestion when everybody knows that bikes offer less congestion on the road, not to mention parking problems?
These are some points that bike users are finding hard to understand. Something must be done to control these insurance companies which are doing their utmost to get rid of bikes from the road - something I find unacceptable and which will never happen.
