A motorcyclist was critically injured in a collision with a pick-up truck in Racecourse Street, Marsa, yesterday evening, police said.

The motorcyclist is Rupert Portelli, 27.

His crash helmet was flung into a nearby field on impact.

He suffered serious head injuries.

The driver of the pick-up, which was still on a trial-run, was not injured.

Duty magistrage Noel Cuschieri held an on-site inquiry and appointed expert Yana Micallef Stafrace to assist.

Police inspector Ray D' Anastas is investigating.
