A 43-year-old motorcyclist died on Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle skidded into the wall of the southbound Tal-Qroqq tunnel. A Polish woman who was riding pillion was seriously injured.

The accident happened at about 4pm, scattering debris along a long stretch of the tunnel forcing its closure.  

The Balzan man died shortly after being taken to hospital. 

Magistrate Monica Vella is heading an inquiry.
