A motorcyclist died instantly early yesterday afternoon following a crash in St Andrews.

Marco D'Agata of Mosta, a 39-year-old father of a young child, was riding a Honda XR 11 together with two other motorcyclists on their way to Madliena.

According to a police report the Honda crashed into one of the other motorcycles, a Suzuki, driven by a 20-year-old youth from Qormi, who was uninjured. Both motorcycles were extensively damaged.

However D'Agata was thrown off his powerful Honda and crashed onto an oncoming Ford Fiesta driven by an Irish tourist.

His motorcycle ended up over 100 metres away from the accident spot after hitting two vehicles.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima carried out an on-site inquiry with the help of court-appointed experts.

St Julian's district police are investigating.
