Motorist takes police on 160km/hr car chase

Illegal emergency siren found in the vehicle

A 21-year-old motorist is facing court action after leading the police on a  160km/hr chase on Tuesday night.

The police said a patrol spotted the car being driven at high speed near Rabat and followed it. The motorist continued to drive at a speed of over 160km/hr, ignoring traffic rules and driving dangerously. He was eventually stopped in Siġġiewi.

A search of the vehicle revealed a number of irregularities and the police also found an illegal emergency siren. The vehicle was seized by the officers and the motorist was told that court action would be taken against him.

The police said they would also be taking action against another two motorists, aged 25 and 26, found drifting their cars in a public carpark in Ta' Qali earlier on Tuesday evening, creating a danger for themselves and bystanders.
