Around 175 people who park or work near Lascaris and Pinto Wharf (picture) have signed a petition complaining about the number of spaces now allocated to taxis.
The petition was sent to the Commissioner of Police, the Valletta and Floriana councils, the Malta Transport Authority and the Transport Ministry.
It says that the area is too far to walk for public bus commuters, come rain or shine, and points out that many of those visiting the area have short errands to do at the Customs Department or at the shipping offices in the area.
"This results in double parking, traffic jams, fines, towing of vehicles and waste of time," it says.
The petition says taxis should be allowed to park inside the fenced off area of the wharf and suggested that the tunnel leading to the MCP Car Park be opened.
"It would also help if the limited parking space available to the public is appropriately marked with parking slots in order to avoid any space being wasted."
