MP Clothing is to let go of 50 employees because of lack of orders, the General Workers Union said yesterday.
The union said the management had informed the secretary of the GWU's manufacturing and small enterprises section, Roberto Cristiano, that the lay-offs were due to a reduction in orders from the company's most important client.
The company had recently shed another 50 workers. It now has 150 employees on its books, compared to 275 at the end of December.
The union said it had held discussions with MP Clothing over a restructuring plan, but no agreement had been reached over a company proposal to reduce Lm5 a week from the workers' pay.
