An employee of the Wireless Telegraphy Department, Mr Carmel Grixti, has denied he ever had any contacts with former Broadcasting Authority chairman Prof. Joe Pirotta regarding television transmissions by the Nationalist Party in 1998.
He has also said in a sworn statement he did not have anything to do with the sale of the former Deutche Welle transmission antennas and their eventual destination.
In a speech in parliament on July 10, Labour MP Joe Mizzi said Mr Grixti had made arrangements for a former broadcasting tower of Deutche Welle to be acquired by the PN.
The tower was dismantled quickly and not according to prior arrangements so that the PN could be accommodated.
Mr Mizzi also said that on the day when the PN was stopped from carrying out test transmissions from the Gharghur tower in 1998, Mr Grixti had connived with Prof. Pirotta so that Prof. Pirotta would be away from Malta and no other member of the Broadcasting Authority board would be available.
Prof. Pirotta has also denied the claim.
