On the initiative of the Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU), Maltese referee Steve Busuttil, who officiated at this year's Super Cup final, will attend a course in Rome this week alongside top-flight Italian officials.

The policy of the MRFU is to build and enhance its officials' experience and technique by locking in to international expertise.

The invitation was a further acknowledgement of the MRFU's position on the world stage.

Busuttil only started training seriously as a referee last year after many seasons as a player.

Further official training for referees is scheduled in November and March by the Scottish Rugby Union. Two other officials, Don Hewer and Bryan Corlett, will be accredited internationally.

Meanwhile, various Youth Development Officers will soon be starting a programme of continuous training, to join youth coaches Robert Portelli and Esther Farrugia.
