Msida Creek square and waterfront to open in time for parish feast
Infrastructure Minister says 'significant progress' made as project continues
Key public spaces within the Msida Creek Project will be made accessible for the upcoming parish feast as works on the major road infrastructure continue.
Infrastructure Minister Jonathan Attard visited the site on Thursday to assess progress across the various sections of the project, particularly within the main square, the church and its surroundings, and the area in front of the band club.
“Our immediate priority is to ensure that key public spaces, including the new square and waterfront areas, are ready for the upcoming feast celebrations,” Attard said.
He also pointed out that the project is “steadily taking shape”, with “significant progress” already achieved along the waterfront promenade where a large portion of the paving works has already been completed
Both the regenerated square and the waterfront promenade are expected to become accessible “in the coming weeks”.
Meanwhile, infrastructural works continue in other areas of the project including the installation of underground services, the construction of a water canal feature, the development of the underground car park and other works related to the regeneration of public spaces.
“Once completed, this project will provide the community with a modern, accessible and attractive waterfront that will be enjoyed by present and future generations alike,” Attard said.
Infrastructure Malta CEO Steve Ellul said works will continue throughout summer on one of the project’s “crucial elements”, the canal, which will form a central feature of the development.
Infrastructure Malta had said that around 60% of the project's footprint will be dedicated to public spaces, which include green areas and a large square of around 2,200 square metres.
The entire multi-million euro project is expected to be completed by 2027.
