Msida project on track with flyover set for end-of-year completion
60 per cent of footprint will be dedicated to open spaces
The flyover forming part of the Msida Creek Project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, Transport Minister Chris Bonett said yesterday.
Speaking to journalists, Bonett said: “The flyover should be ready, I hope so, by the end of the year. So, by the end of the year, we should have cars using the flyover.”
He added that its completion would mark a turning point for the locality.
“It will help with the most important part of the project, which is uniting Msida again,” he said.
Bonett also announced that the piazza in Msida would be reopened in time for the town’s feast of St Joseph, which will be celebrated on July 20.
“We are going to give them back the square and the bridge. So, the people of Msida can enjoy their parish feast,” he said.
The minister told Times of Malta that the project’s timelines were on track, with targets being met.
The €38.5 million project is being implemented in phases and is expected to be fully completed by 2027.
The CEO of Infrastructure Malta, Steve Ellul, also spoke about the Msida Creek Project during a press call, highlighting more than 300 infrastructure projects completed in the last 12 months.
In his speech, Ellul said traffic management during the project “has been effective”.
Approximately 60 per cent of the project’s footprint will be dedicated to public spaces, including a 2,200-square metre central square intended to enhance the area’s public realm.
Infrastructure Malta said the final design would include 19,735 square metres of open space, comprising a public garden, new green areas and a 300-metre-long water canal. The canal is expected to help address Msida’s persistent flooding problems.
The project will also feature 1.6 kilometres of cycling and walking paths and solar-panelled parking facilities.
