Multi-million euro plan to upgrade social housing across 13 localities
Over 700 families will benefit from regeneration works to their buildings
Around 720 families will benefit from upgrading works in social housing across 13 localities in a multi-million euro regeneration plan announced on Thursday.
Announcing this year’s work plan, Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue and Housing Andy Ellul said the project will cost €6.7 million across more than 100 social housing buildings.
Ellul was speaking at a press conference in Ħal Tmiem, Żejtun, where the largest project will take place through an €882,000 investment on 16 buildings benefiting nearly 100 families.
Regeneration works will also be carried out on six residential blocks in Ħal Għaxaq where a total of 54 families will benefit from an investment of over €600,000.
Ellul said that other works will be carried out in Santa Luċija benefiting nearly 60 families; in Gżira for 55 families; in Kalkara reaching 18 families and in Rabat, Gozo where 128 families will benefit from refurbishment to their buildings.
Embellishment and maintenance works will also take place in buildings in Attard and Luqa.
He added that work is currently underway on 42 buildings in Marsa, Paola, Marsascala, Ta’ Xbiex and Mosta.
Ellul said that while the government remains committed to increasing the supply of social housing, it is equally important to continue maintenance projects to address existing issues without delay.
Works under this project will include façade restoration, improvements to building entrances, upgrades to general infrastructure where needed, and the refurbishment of common areas.
