Forty-one sets of twins have been born in Malta so far this year, along with four sets of triplets and two quadruplets, Health Minister Louis Deguara said in reply to a parliamentary question by Franco Galea (PN) yesterday.

Figures given by the minister for the past 10 year period show that the highest number of multiple births was in 1994 when there were 63 sets of twins, two sets of triples, two quads, one quin and one set of sextuplets.

Last year there were 50 twins and three triplets.
