Labour leader Joseph Muscat has called for bioethics legislation which would not restrict fertility treatment such as IVF for infertile couples.
He made his comments when he met a delegation from the Parliament of Youths, which discussed the issue earlier this week.
The Labour leader praised the youths for having had the courage to discuss sensitive issues, and said he agreed with the Youth Parliament on the need for regulation on the use of IVF. He also agreed with their views against abortion but said he had reservations on their position on allowing the morning-after pill in certain circumstances.
Dr Muscat praised the young people for their frank and open debate and said the PL was always ready to hear their view.
