The 33rd international conference of the European String Teachers Association, on the theme Cross-Strings, is being held in Malta between today and Thursday to run parallel with the BOV Opera Festival being held at the Manoel Theatre.

Over 100 string musicians and musicologists are attending the conference.

The event will include illustrated lectures, master classes and workshops delivered by Maltese and foreign scholars and musicologists. Music recitals are to be held daily in various locali-ties including the Manoel Theatre.

ESTA (Malta) is celebrating its fifth year since its establishment and the 30th anniversary of the Johann Strauss School of Music in Valletta, which was founded with the help of the Austrian government.

The ESTA international conference is aimed to appeal to high-profile professionals in music, in particular advanced string instrument players and teachers. Topics will include many interesting research studies.

Tickets for the evening recitals can be purchased from the Manoel Theatre booking office.
