In his letter Loyalty Of Teachers' Union Members, Frank Galea (March 5) seems to be quite convinced of "the recent conspiracy to throw the Malta Union of Teachers out of the CMTU for refusing to play lackey to the administration".

Well, Mr Galea is right about the conspiracy "theory" but very wrong of where it may have came from or who may have been the "perpetrator" behind the MUT's withdrawal of its affiliation of the CMTU.

The facts show an "inconvenient truth": The MUT administration, through a letter dated December 12, 2008 and signed by the union's general secretary, confirms that the MUT's unilateral decision to withdraw was solely taken by the MUT council without the consent of the MUT membership (recent claims by disgruntled MUT members) which went even further to conclude that the council declared that its position was "final and irrevocable". Instead of making such sweeping statements,

Mr Galea should seriously ask whether the MUT council had a mandate to act in such a way or why were the MUT members not consulted before taking such an "irrevocable" decision.
