MUT-Government talks to resume today

The Education Division and the Malta Union of Teachers are today due to resume talks on the working conditions of supply teachers, kindergarten assistants and learning support assistants.

Union president John Bencini said that today's would be an 'important' meeting. He said the MUT had informed the Education Ministry that it was willing to attend the meeting on pending issues subject to the presentation of a draft agreement on the supply category as proposed by the Management and Personnel Office and a draft document reflecting what had been discussed between the MUT and the Education Directorates regarding LSAs and KGAs.

In a letter to the MUT, the Ministry of Education acceded to the MUT's request and promised to present the two drafts before the meeting started.

The MUT called its members in the supply categories on a two-hour strike last Friday morning. It is complaining that agreements reached more than a year ago with the government have not been brought fully into force.
