In the only match from the top light last week, Nadur Youngsters beat Sannat Lions 3-1 to stay in the hunt for the championship.
Sannat wanted all points from this match in an attempt to move away from the red zone and avoid getting relegated one year after winning the league title.
In fact, the champions held the initiative in the early stages but Nadur scored two quick goals and the match was always an uphill struggle for Sannat.
Anthony Portelli opened the score on 17 minutes and Charles Hili doubled the lead two minutes later with a strike from outside the area.
The Lions re-opened the issue on 35 minutes with a goal from a penalty, converted by Nikolai Filipov.
Sannat regained confidence and had a golden opportunity to score a deserved equaliser soon after the restart but Moussa Bamba hit the base of the post from another penalty awarded for a foul on Errol Grima.
Bamba's miss proved costly for Sannat as on 63 minutes they fell 3-1 behind when Claudio Antunes scored for Nadur after a fine solo move.
Portelli was unlucky not to add another goal for Nadur on 79 minutes but his shot was stopped by the woodwork.
Division Two
Leaders St Lawrence Spurs obtained a convincing 4-0 win over Għarb Rangers and now require another victory in their penultimate match to make sure of promotion prior to the clash against Xagħra United that rounds up their league calendar.
As expected, the Saints were the masters on the pitch and went in for the break leading 1-0 following a Jonathan Micallef goal just after the half-hour mark.
Shaun Muscat and Jonathan Micallef made the score 3-0 with quick goals soon after the restart and substitute Neville Mercieca completed the rout with a fourth goal on 78 minutes.
Second-placed Xagħra stayed in the hunt with a 2-0 win over Munxar Falcons. They were the better side and opened the score after just 11 minutes through Joseph Bartolo.
Munxar rarely threatened and Xagħra had various chances to double their lead, something which they only managed to do in stoppage time thanks to a Philip Attard goal.
Żebbuġ Rovers joined Munxar in third place with a 5-1 win over Qala St Joseph.
All six goals came after the break.
Sylvan Galea scored a brace as Frank Attard, Joe Hili and an own goal by Paul James Mizzi saw the Rovers cruising to a 5-0 lead. Patrick Falzon scored a consolation goal for Qala six minutes from time.
