A Nationalist councillor from Gzira is incensed after a motion approved on Monday night proposed changing the name of the main garden in the locality from Gnien il-Kunsill ta' L-Ewropa to Gnien Gzira.

Ian Micallef has appealed to the government to reject the proposal through its street naming committee.

Three Labour and two Nationalist councillors voted in favour of the motion and two PN councillors gave the thumbs down.

Dr Micallef explained that the garden was named for the Council of Europe in 2000 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Council as well as Malta's 35th anniversary as a member.
