‘Narakom l-Infern’ wins L-Għanja tal-Poplu festival

The festival was in its 49th edition

Narakom l-Infern, a song written and performed by Rita Pacem, has won L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2025, a long-running festival for original songs in Maltese, held on Saturday night. The song was composed by Augusto Cardinali and Rita Pace.

Sixteen songs competed for the coveted top prize in the festival's final held at Pjazza Teatru Rjal. 124 songs were entered for the festival, which was in its 49th edition.

The winner was chosen jointly by a professional jury and a popular vote.

The winning song focused on the quality of life and how circumstances and people affect one's mental health and mood, and could land one in hell.

The song Moħħi Mistrieħ sung by Mark Tonna to words by Rita Pace and music by Andrew Zahra came second.

Skuri u Ċari (Mark Spiteri Lucas and Mark Micallef Costa) was third. 

Cherylis won the Enzo Gusman prize for her interpretation of the song Inħobbok Wisq, dedicated to her grandfather. 

The prize for social themes was won by Peppi Azzopardi with the song Għad Għandha Erba’ Snin with music by’ Priscilla Psaila and singing by Graziella Mifsud Schembri Vella.  

Daryl Jaymes won the prize for singer-authors with Aħfirli while the song Ersaq ‘l Hawn won the broadcasters' prize.  

Joe Demicoli won an award for his contribution to Maltese song. 

The festival was compered by Debbie Scerri and George Cremona.
