The Malta Tourism Society has invited sectors of society to submit statements showing their commitment towards a truly sustainable and responsible tourism industry, with a view to drawing up a National Tourism Consensus Document.
"Each of us in these islands has a role and function, and indeed, a responsibility to ensure that we work together to care for the environment, for our culture, traditions and history," the society said.
It continued that the time had come "to really commit ourselves to that role", adding that there was a need to move from words to actions.
"We must all begin to show our individual commitment and responsibility towards our environment, our innovation, our civic pride and our hospitality if we want to remain a destination that can really fulfil the service promise to our visitors.
"But above all, we must commit ourselves to improving our own way of life on these islands, by ensuring a national commitment to excellence," it said.
Statements from all sectors will be accepted by e-mail at: info@maltatourismsociety.org.mt or by post to The Secretary, Malta Tourism Society, PO Box 58, Birkirkara. The society is willing to hear from anyone wanting to make his contribution. Statements can be viewed on the society's website www.maltatourismsociety.org.mt.
