Malta's national team made an excellent start to their Promotion Cup late on Monday when cruising past hosts Andorra 67-31.

The team, under the guidance of Santino Coppa and Carlo Farrugia, were too strong for Andorra who did not play in last year's GSSE tournament, won by Malta at the University Sports Hall.

The score at half-time was 31-11 for Malta for whom the top scorer was Josephine Grima with 17 points. The scores at each quarter were: 19-4, 12-7, 17-16, 19-4. The other three teams in Group A are Azerbaijan, Iceland and Scotland.

In another match from Group A, Iceland beat Scotland 85-44.

Group B is composed of Gibraltar, Armenia, Cyprus, Wales and Luxembourg. Qualifying matches will come to a close on Friday. The positional play-offs are scheduled for the following day.
