Nationalist MEPs will be supporting Karmenu Vella’s nomination for European Commissioner, party leader Simon Busuttil said this evening.

Speaking during the programme Iswed fuq l-Abjad on Net TV, Dr Busuttil said the three Nationalist MEPs would be voting for Mr Vella despite the Opposition's disappointment at not being consulted on his nomination.

Dr Busuttil said that he wanted to register the fact that things should not have been done in this way but if Mr Vella passed the European Parliament grilling, the Nationalist MEPs would be supporting his nomination.

MEPs will not be voting for Commissioners individually but will take a collective vote on all 28.

Earlier, Dr Busuttil said that the Nationalist Party would next week be approving a group of candidates for the general election.

These candidate represented ‘new’ faces and would be sending a clear message that the party was changing and had space for new people, he said.
