The Peace Band Club of Naxxar said today that in view of the current situation and the circumstances experienced by Naxxar over the past few months, it would not hold the usual band marches in connection with the feast of Our Lady of Victories in Naxxar.

The club said it was doing its best to ensure that the concert in front of the parish church on the eve of the feast would be held, and that it would participate in the procession on the feast day.

The Peace Band Club has been closed on police orders ever since the police found fireworks stored in the basement, shortly after an explosion last March, which killed two people and demolished three houses in a nearby street.

The holding of the Naxxar feast has drawn harsh criticism from various quarters in view of the fireworks tragedy.

Peace Band Club secretary Victor Gauci had said last week that the band would be participating in the Naxxar feast. However, he understood the suffering that explosion victims faced and the club was "ready to play our part to limit the extent of the feast."
