The Department of Chemistry of the University of Malta is holding the Second National Chemistry Symposium next month. The programme includes a keynote presentation, a number of brief oral presentations (15-20 minutes) and a networking poster session and is sponsored by the University of Malta and Pharmamed Ltd.

This biennial event provides a unique opportunity for all chemists (especially younger local chemists) to present their work publicly, and is the only gathering of its kind where the public and particularly those working in chemistry can meet and be updated on what is happening in Malta and elsewhere.

The organisers envisage that the symposium will follow the success of the First National Chemistry Symposium, which was well attended and had attracted a lot of attention in the local media.

Offers of contributed papers for oral and poster presentation are being invited. Although all papers will be equally considered, those on work carried out in the past ten years as part of undergraduate or postgraduate research projects are particularly welcome.

The deadline for oral and poster contributions is next Sunday. The abstracts of papers accepted for presentation (oral and poster) will be published by the University of Malta. Contributors are also encouraged to publish a full paper in a special issue of Xjenza - the journal of the Malta Chamber of Scientists.

For more information (including information on sponsoring the symposium) and registration visit the symposium Website at http://home.um.edu.mt/ncs or contact Dr Joseph N. Grima or Dr Emmanuel Sinagra, Department of Chemistry, University of Malta, Msida MSD 06, tel: 2340-2274/5 or 2340-2396, e-mail ncs@um.edu.mt.
