A new national mark in the 800 metres freestyle was set up yesterday by 16-year-old Neil Agius.

Competing in the Ninth Age-Group meeting, the Neptunes swimmer covered the distance in nine minutes 08.51secs, thus clipping 2.32secs off the previous record held by Kenny D'Ugo since 1997.

Earlier this year, Agius also broke D'Ugo's 1,500m freestyle record.
