The shipyards have taken 30 apprentices in a scheme launched by the Employment and Training Corporation.

Shipyards' chairman John Cassar White said the apprentices would be trained over a period of three years. Those concluding their apprenticeship would receive a journeyman's certificate.

According to the restructuring plan, agreed upon in the task force, the shipyards planned to employ a limited number of apprentices in the coming years to fill the void created due to retirement, resignations and illness.
