When I logged on to the St George's Basilica website I read the news that Mgr Pawlu Cardona had been nominated as Archpriest of the Gozitan Golden Basilica of St George in Victoria.

Being half Gozitan and "Gorgjan", I'd like to extend a big welcome to Mgr Cardona who, from what I read on the website, has vast pastoral experience, most of which has been achieved in various parishes in Italy.

During his nine years as Archpriest, Mgr Dr Joseph Farrugia did a lot for the Basilica. The list of his achievements is endless. The parochial centre that he built will forever praise his name and so will the famous choir Laudate Pueri, the new lighting system and many other achievements for the benefit of the Basilica and the St George parishioners.

On my and my wife Jasmine's behalf, I'd like to say thank you to our dear friend, Mgr Farrugia and extend our welcome to Mgr Cardona. To both we promise our prayers.
