New automatic trim tab system

Barclay Marine, a local firm, has designed a fully automatic trim tab system, suitable for most boats with planing hulls.

The TrimPilot, manufactured in Malta both for the local market and for export, takes a new approach to trim tab technology. It is fully automatic and requires no attention from the helmsman.

According to Barclay Marine, the secret of the TrimPilot is two-fold: a stainless steel gas actuator adjusts automatically to suit the load and sea conditions as the boat travels; and the TrimPilot's shape helps the boat track and turn through the water as sharply as a skater on ice. "It's like having sports car suspension on your boat," Barclay Marine said in a statement.

TrimPilots are suitable for pleasure and fishing vessels with a planing hull up to 22 feet long. They give a smoother ride, better economy, sharper handling and faster acceleration.

Made entirely of stainless steel, they do not corrode and require little maintenance. Once fitted and adjusted to the vessel, they require no further attention, apart from regular cleaning.

Barclay Marine are also sole local agents for SeaScooters. The SeaDoo is suitable for youngsters and professional diving schools. Safety features include protective grilles, auto shut-off, dual trigger control and positive buoyancy.
