New black uniforms for police rapid intervention officers
The new uniform offers greater comfort and practicality
Officers of the police Rapid Intervention Unit have been given new black, more comfortable uniforms, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The new uniform was designed following evaluation and consultation with officers from the section itself.
Made from material that offers greater mobility, ventilation, and comfort during operations, the uniform also incorporates pockets that make it more practical both during tours of duty and field operations.
While the black colour gives the RIU a distinct identity, the overall design remains consistent with the current working uniform of the Malta Police Force, with minor variations adapted to the section’s operational requirements in order to maintain the Force’s identity, the ministry said.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that this investment forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure that members of the Force benefit from better working conditions, more modern equipment, and an improved working environment.
The section will begin using the new uniform from 7pm on Monday.
