The report "Delimara and Marsa power stations can be developed further" (August 19) referred to a study on public utilities published recently by MEPA. The following points require clarification.

The utilities topic paper was drawn up following extensive consultation with public entities, including Enemalta. The study also makes reference to Enemalta's energy plan.

The corporation chairman's remarks reported in The Times are entirely in harmony with the contents of the topic paper and there is no discord between the two, as implied in the sub-heading to the article.

For example, you report Prof. R. Ghirlando as saying that an energy shortage in 2010 is only possible if no further development takes place at the two power stations. The study says exactly that in para. 8.3.1.

MEPA also agrees with Prof. Ghirlando's suggestion about more energy efficient buildings.

His concern is reflected in the topic paper and the issue is being addressed through the drafting of new building regulations.
