Deepak Padmanabhan will take over as chairman at Go plc following the resignation of Sonny Portelli, who will step down on March 10.
Mr Padmanabhan has been a member of the company's board of directors since 2006. He is also the CEO of Emirates International Telecommunications LLC, the Dubai-based joint venture between Tecom Investments and DIG that is the majority shareholder in Go plc through Emirates International Telecommunications (Malta) Ltd.
He was responsible for leading the international development of Tecom Investment's business from 2000 to 2006. In addition, he is chairman of the board of SmartCity Malta.
Mr Padmanabhan is an honours engineering graduate in electronics and holds a post-graduate diploma in computer communications and networks.
He has over 22 years of telecommunications industry experience, including work on mergers and acquisitions, strategy and investments and value creation.
Mr Portelli has been nominated chairman of Air Malta, succeeding Lawrence Zammit. The company also announced that Yiannos Michaelides will be appointed non-executive member of Go's board of directors with effect from March 10. He has over 20 years of international experience in telecommunications and media.
