Clyde Puli will be the Nationalist Party's next general secretary, with the MP running uncontested for the party executive post. 

The man rumoured to have an interest in the position, former The Malta Independent content director Pierre Portelli, will become executive chairman for PN media after being offered the job by party leader Adrian Delia during a meeting this morning.  

Another potential candidate, MEP David Casa, yesterday said he would not be contesting the general secretary post and would instead remain in Brussels. 

Having Mr Puli and Mr Portelli - two key allies of Dr Delia - as general secretary and boss of party media will help the new PN leader cement his position as party leader, following weeks of tumult and rumours of internal dissent within the PN. 

Aside from Mr Puli, the PN is set to name Mark Anthony Sammut as the president of its executive committee, MP David Stellini as president of its administrative committee, David Camilleri as treasurer and Roselyn Borg as international secretary. 

All five are running for their respective posts uncontested, with their nominations expected to be confirmed during an executive committee meeting scheduled for Thursday 23 November. 

Mr Portelli's position at the helm of Media.Link will be formally confirmed once the new board has been appointed.

The former journalist quit The Malta Independent in early October after he successfully coordinated Dr Delia's campaign to become party leader. He was recently elected to the party’s executive council.
