The number of new COVID-19 cases dropped to 80 on Sunday, the lowest number since 55 new cases on July 8 when a surge of the virus had started. 

But the health authorities also reported that the number of patients in intensive care had risen to five from three on Saturday.

Sources told Times of Malta that the COVID ITU has been reopened. The patients in intensive care include a 30-year-old who is 19 weeks pregnant and is intubated. The other patients are in their sixties and one in the thirties. All ITU patients had not been vaccinated.

The total number of COVID-19 patients in hospital stands at  32.

The health authorities said in their usual bulletin that 214 patients had recovered, leaving 1713 active cases.

The number of fully vaccinated people has risen to 382,255.
