New Creative Europe MEDIA calls for 2026 announced
Funding gives Maltese producers and creatives the chance to realise their artistic vision and showcase their craft to wider audiences
The European Commission has launched the first set of Creative Europe MEDIA calls for 2026, opening up fresh opportunities for the audiovisual and film sectors across Europe, including Malta.
Through the support of Creative Europe Desk Malta, local producers, film-makers and creative enterprises can access funding and guidance to strengthen their projects and connect with international partners.
For 2026, MEDIA will continue to support the development, distribution and promotion of European audiovisual content, while adapting its actions to reflect industry changes. Priorities remain focused on digital innovation, environmental sustainability, inclusion, gender equality and audience engagement.
Among the calls already announced are:
• Co-development and European slate development − supporting collaborative projects and content creation.
• TV and online content − funding for high-quality animation, fiction and documentary works.
• Video games and immersive content development – investment in innovative, interactive storytelling.
• Innovative tools and business models – supporting digital solutions and new market strategies.
• VOD (video on demand) networks and operators – strengthening platforms and services that distribute European works.
• Films on the move – boosting cross-border distribution of non-national films.
Deadlines for some of these calls fall as early as December 2025, with others scheduled throughout 2026. The total MEDIA budget is expected to exceed €80 million, ensuring strong support for projects across Europe.
