Dyfrig John, HSBC Bank Malta plc's new chief operating officer in the UK, has also been appointed director at HSBC Bank Malta plc. Mr John will be taking over this position on the board of directors at HSBC Malta from David Baker.
Mr John was recently in Malta to attend his first board meeting together with Shaun Wallis, head of international operations for HSBC Bank plc's overseas offices and branches.
HSBC Bank Malta's board currently consists of Albert Mizzi as chairman and Christopher Hothersall, Timothy Fitzpatrick, James Bonello, Dyfrig John, Shaun Wallis, Louis A. Farrugia, Victor Scicluna and Paul Testaferrata Moroni Viani as directors.
"Mr John's vast experience in the banking industry in the UK and Asia will prove an invaluable asset to the bank in its continued efforts to deliver the best possible products and services to our customers in Malta," Mr Mizzi said.
During their visit to Malta, Mr John and Mr Wallis met the executive team of HSBC Bank Malta plc and other staff members.
Mr John joined Midland Bank in 1972. Over the years he has occupied a number of senior posts with both Midland Bank and then with HSBC.
These included the position of general manager for Wales, chief executive officer of HSBC in India and of HSBC Bank Malaysia.
Mr John was appointed chief operating officer of HSBC Bank plc in January.
