The Malta Press Club (TMPC) launched the 13th edition of the annual press competition with a new format, more categories and an array of new sponsors. As from this year, the competition will be entitled Malta Journalism Awards.
The details were announced by TMPC chairman Malcolm J. Naudi, general secretary Joe A. Vella and Malta Journalism Awards' project director Carmel Bonello. The number of categories has increased from five to seven.
The Broadcast Journalism category has been subdivided into two, in order to recognise the individual merits of both the journalist and the news cameramen. A new category covers e-journalism and in order to recognise the importance of good Maltese in journalism, all submissions in Maltese will automatically participate in the Il-lingwa nazzjonali fil-gurnalizmu category. The prize fund has also been increased.
Each category has a major sponsor. BPC, who have sponsored this award for the first 12 editions, retained sponsorship of the prestigious Gold Award. Fondazzjoni Tumas Fenech ghall-Edujazzjoni fil- Gurnalizmu will sponsor part of the prizes in all submission categories. The other category sponsors are:
¤ HSBC for Print Journalism
¤ The Farsons Foundation for Press Photography
¤ Malta International Airport for Press Cartoons
¤ HP for e-Journalism
¤ Michele Peresso Ltd for Sport Journalism
¤ Broadcasting Authority for Broadcast Script Journalism and Broadcast Film Journalism
¤ Akkademja tal-Malti, supported by the Ministry of Education for il-Lingwa Nazzjonali fil-Gurnalizmu.
