New grant offers artists up to €3,000 for legal and financial advice
Scheme is a 'step closer' to a more professional cultural sector
Artists and cultural organisations will be able to access up to €3,000 in funding through the newly established Legal and Finance Grant, the Culture Minister announced on Tuesday.
The grant, a first of its kind, is a new support measure designed to help artists, creative practitioners, and cultural organisations gain access to professional legal and financial advice.
The measure, which was drawn up after consultation with Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association, aims to respond to the practical, professional requirements of the cultural and creative sectors while supporting the long-term sustainability of artistic practices.
The funds can be used to seek legal and financial advice on matters such as contracts, intellectual property, rights management, tax, accounts, financial planning, insurance-related requisites and regulatory obligations related to artistic and cultural work. All eligible costs will be covered.
Culture Minister Malcolm Paul Agius Galea said culture is not seen as an expense “but rather as an investment”.
“The Legal and Finance Grant is a concrete example of how we are providing creative professionals with the tools to create and to grow and succeed sustainably,” Agius Galea said.
Arts Council Malta CEO Luke Dalli said the scheme is a “step closer towards a more professional and sustainable cultural sector”.
“Through the Legal and Financial Grant, we are investing not only in creativity but also in the capabilities of artists and creative organisations to be able to operate with more confidence, professionalism and resilience,” Dalli said.
Applications for the grant are open until noon of September 2. More information is available on the Arts Council Malta website.
