Frans Borg has been appointed permanent secretary-designate in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment.
He will take up his appointment as Permanent Secretary on July 27 upon the retirement of Charles Mizzi.
Mr Borg joined the Ministry of Education in 1977 as a primary school teacher. In 1982 he obtained a BA in history and social sciences, followed by a diploma in school administration and management and another post-graduate diploma in school counselling.
Between 1995 and 2001 he served as an assistant head and a head of school. Mr Borg also served on various ministerial boards, particularly on the steering committee for the implementation of the National Minimum Curriculum.
In 2001 he was appointed director of the Office of Review and was then appointed director of EU Affairs and Policy Development. In 2003 Mr Borg read for a masters degree in education.
Mr Borg is also the president of the Association of School Councils (AKS) and secretary general of the European Parents Association (EPA). He serves as a member of the National Curriculum Council and is a board member of the Foundation for Educational Services. Upon his appointment, Mr Borg will be relinquishing these positions.
