New PN CEO Sabine Agius Cabourdin will not be paid

Agius Cabourdin chose to take on the role 'on a voluntary basis'

The PN's new CEO Sabine Agius Cabourdin chose to take on the role without being paid, party leader Alex Borg said on Friday.

Speaking during an interview as part of the Independence Day celebrations, Borg said Agius Cabourdin chose to take on the role "on a voluntary basis, out of love for the party".

He said unlike Labour, where nothing is done for free and everyone is on some sort of retainer, there are people within the PN who are ready to work voluntarily to help the party.

Borg called out Labour for “attacking” Agius Cabourdin’s appointment.

The PN leader said he appointed Agius Cabourdin not because she is a woman, but because she is a successful professional.

Borg pointed out the role of CEO will help the party’s secretary general focus on the PN’s political message.

The PN leader said he plans to overcome the party’s financial troubles by restructuring its assets and maximising its income.

Borg said he is working on the final costings of his leadership campaign, and will have no problem being transparent about them.

He also dismissed any notions of a rift with Adrian Delia, who lost the leadership race by 44 votes.

Delia ruled out contesting a deputy leadership election in the Nationalist Party

There isn't even a vacancy, he told Times of Malta following his narrow defeat to Alex Borg, and speculating about it would imply trying to oust current deputy leader Alex Perici Calascione, something he says he does not want to do.

Questioned why he has yet to appoint a new shadow cabinet, Borg denied that any of his MPs were making the process difficult.

On the Fortina scandal, Borg said he will do everything possible to defend the national interest, but stop short of committing to take legal action to rescind the contract.
