Midsea Books Ltd, in collaboration with MaltaPost plc, has published a book The Historical Collection – Celebrating Malta’s Heritage Through Stamps. This publication complements the issue of a new Definitive Set of 17 stamps portraying iconic images, each related to a specific age, period or event in the history and culture of the Maltese Islands.
The book offers a number of essays by specialist historians that narrate the Islands’ culture and history from the Pleistocene Period right up to EU membership. Considerable research was undertaken to identify an image that encapsulated the impact and legacy of a particular episode in Malta and Gozo's history. The result is a publication of interest to both philatelists and collectors of Melitensia.
“The Historical Collection offers a comprehensive representation of the experiences of these Islands between pre-history and today and gives readers an insight into our historic heritage – by far among the most precious assets we possess.” said Joseph Said, chairman, MaltaPost p.l.c.
A uniquely numbered souvenir sheet bearing the 17 stamps is included in the first 2,500 numbered copies of this publication. Both the souvenir sheet and the book bear a matching number.
The Historical Collection retails at €65 and is available from all MaltaPost branches and the Philatelic Bureau in Marsa, tel: 25961740.
