The government will be following up the laying of a new submarine cable by the Go Group between Malta and Sicily with the laying of a new submarine cable between Malta and Gozo, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this morning.
He told Nationalist Party activists that the government wanted to see Gozo developing at the same rate as Malta, also with regard to information technology.
Dr Gonzi underlined the progress made by the government over the past five years, saying the MLP had opposed it all the way, starting from EU membership right on to euro adoption, financial consolidation, the building of Mater Dei Hospital, and investment in Smart City.
LIving standards had been improved, especially as a result of the last budget, but, Dr Gonzi said, much more remained to be done and there were challenges ahead, such as turning Malta into a centre for excellence in IT, education and health and containing the cost of living as the international prices of oil and cereals continued to increase.
