Recently some adoptive parents contacted me to see whether I was still involved in a voluntary support group for adoptive parents and their children and it was a pity that I had to answer in the negative. Sadly, this group has been inactive for quite some time.

Last year there was an attempt to create something similar but unfortunately the response was quite poor and nothing happened. Still, if there are people interested in such a group they can contact me either by telephone on 2169 0657 or 2166 0412, by mobile 7920 8816 or 7920 4394 or by e-mail at eugenesapiano@euroweb.net.mt.

Those willing to join should realise that this is no easy thing and should be prepared to work hard voluntarily. The beginning is always hard. When the Walsingham Foundation was established in 2002, whose aim was to find alternative countries from where one could adopt children, once Romania and Albania had shut their doors, the first fruit was only yielded on April 25, 2005 when the first Bulgarian child to be adopted by a Maltese couple arrived in Malta. Once this has happened, one should not give up hope, after all two of the founders, myself included, are adoptive parents.

After being contacted by so many people about the possibility of establishing a support group for adoptive parents, I have decided to call a meeting which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, at 7.30 p.m. at the hall of Dar it-Tama, Cospicua.

All adoptive parents and children are welcome to attend and adopted children who are now grown-ups are also welcome.
